A post - 2020 renewables support framework fit for the energy transition

June 21, 2017 (14:00 - 15:30) - Brussels, Belgium

Event to be held during 'EUSEW 2017' conference.

The event will take place on Wednesday 21 June at the Residence Palace, Salle Maelbeek at 14:00 - 15:30 during EUSEW 2017 conference

This panel debate aims to identify best practices in terms of support measures for electricity from renewable sources so as to support the negotiations on the Recast RES Directive and the reform of EU State aid rules. Panellists from the industry and from EU and national institutions will share their experience on support schemes for technologies and markets at different level of maturity and will discuss with the audience the strengths and the drawbacks of different approaches.

The event will be attended both by businesses and policy makers. The former will point out the pros and cons of various policy options from an investor perspective, focusing on profitability, stability and predictability. The latter will analyse support measures from a systemic point of view, looking at cost-effectiveness and long-term policy objectives. The discussion will lead to an increase in mutual understanding.

The debate will be particularly useful in the context of the upcoming negotiations on the future EU RES legislative framework. That is why the event will involve the participation of one or more active Members of the EU Parliament ITRE committee (one of the rapporteurs or shadow-rapporteurs on the proposed pieces of legislation that form the so-called 'Clean Energy for All Europeans' package) as well as of one or more Member States.

The event will last 90 minutes. 3-5 panellists from industry and national institutions will have 5-10 minutes each to briefly share their experience with or views on support measures. Statements will be followed by a Q&As session. A summary of the discussion will then close the event. During the event, the audience will be asked to fill out an evaluation form. The aggregated satisfaction survey results as well as a summary of the event and/or the slides used by the panellists will be distributed to the audience within a week after the event date.
