EU Commission approval of old Czech RES support scheme strengthens investor certainty in the country

By Giorgia Concas, Senior Policy Advisor

On 28 November the EU Commission directorate responsible for competition decided that the Czech support scheme for RES plants built between 2006 and 2012 was in line with EU State Aid rules in force at that time. Our member association Solarni Asociace has welcomed the EU executive's decision, which removes all doubt that feed-in-tariffs from the period 2006-2012 must continue to be paid. The Czech government notified the scheme only in 2014. To provide investors with legal certainty, SolarPower Europe recommends EU countries to ask for Commission's green light on their RES support schemes well ahead of their entry into operation.
