Intersolar Europe 2017 - the week in photos

SolarPower Europe had a very busy and successful week at Intersolar Europe. We put together a photo diary to document all our Intersolar activities!

On Tuesday, 30 May, Christian Westermeier, President of SolarPower Europe opened the Intersolar Conference with the launch of our flagship publication, the Global Market Outlook for Solar Power 2017-2021. Dr Westermeier confirmed that 2016 was another record year for solar, with installation increasing dramatically by 50% to 76.6 GW grid connected globally.

"Never before have we seen more solar power being installed in a single year than in 2016. For the first time, solar left behind its renewable energy peer, wind, in terms of annual installations. This proves the versatility and increasing cost-effectiveness of solar power," said Dr Westermeier at the launch of the Global Market Outlook. Dr Westermeier also told the audience that under the right conditions, we could have almost a terawatt of solar installed across the globe by 2021. Hear his speech here

James Watson, CEO of SolarPower Europe presented the European outlook which showed that last year was a disappointing year, with less than 7 GW installed solar capacity. However, if we get right policy framework in place, a new growth cycle will start for solar power in Europe, with the top 3 markets led by Germany, France and Turkey.

On 31 May, SolarPower Europe organised a round table discussion on the global O&M template contract jointly developed with IRENA and the Terrawatt Initiative (TWI). Vassilis Papaeconomou, Managing Director of Alectris and Chair of the SolarPower Europe O&M Task Force, presented the template contract currently being developed. If you would like to learn more about this, contact Mate Heisz.

We launched our seven industry commitments to increase digitalisation, which is part of the work of SolarPower Europe's Digitalisation & Solar Task Force. The commitments cover prosumer choice, peer-to-peer trading and smart and stable grids among other topics, all of which are seen as part of bringing forward 'digital solar'. Watch the exclusive interview with Alison Finch, CMO of Huawei Solar Europe, on why the industry commitments come at a crucial time for solar.

We met some of our brilliant Board members at Intersolar, here with Jochen Hauff of BayWa r.e and Stefan Degener of First Solar. We also met a lot of our members, with Solar log (left) and APESF, the Portuguese solar industry association.

On Thursday 1st June, SolarPower Europe in collaboration with the African-EU Renewable Energy Cooperation Programme (RECP) organised half a day workshop to address financing titled 'Sub-saharan finance masterclass'. Download all the presentations here.

We held our first industrial strategy

We held our first industrial strategy meeting at Intersolar Europe. It was a full room that came to hear about SolarPower Europe's pioneering industrial competitiveness strategy for solar in Europe. This strategy will support the EU to take the global leadership on the existing and next generation solar technologies, manufacturing and services.

Bruce Douglas, COO of SolarPower Europe and Chairman of the Global Solar Council met Indian Minister Piyush Goyal at Intersolar, Mr Goyal is Minister of State with Independent Charge for Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy and Mines in the Government of India.

We also co-organised a meeting with national solar PV associations, where we discussed our agenda and how we can work better together to achieve our common goals.

Finally, we hosted our annual networking drinks reception, click on the video to watch all the fun we had!
