SolarPower Europe partners with GWNET

By: Tina Stojanovic, Senior Events Manager

It is no secret that the energy sector continues to be male-dominated, in both the public and private sectors. Gender equality is undoubtedly an issue, yet with few females in top-level positions, there are limited prospects for women to find role-models and guidance to break into the industry and remedy this imbalance.

This is why SolarPower Europe is proud to become the first strategic industry partner of the Global Women's Network for the Energy Transition (GWNET), an international non-profit organisation, which aims at advancing the global energy transition by connecting and empowering women working in sustainable energy in both developed and emerging/developing countries. GWNET empowers women in energy through interdisciplinary networking, advocacy, training, coaching and mentoring, and services related to projects and financing.

"If we want to transform the energy sector, we must go beyond policy changes and transform how this sector is built from the bottom-up. Empowering women through this initiative can drive innovation to bring new business models and technology to the industry as it creates a larger pool of talent to help Europe move forward in its energy transition" said Aurelie Beauvais, Policy Director at SolarPower Europe.

As part of the network's activities, GWNET has launched a Global Mentorship Programme for women in the energy sector. The mentorship program is designed for women in early career and middle management positions. Participants will be mentored by seasoned professionals, eminent experts and industry leaders. The mentoring programme will begin in March 2018 and will last for 12 months.

Candidates for mentees can apply by sending an email expressing their interest, goals and attaching an updated CV to: The deadline for applications is 31 January 2018. For mentees, this is a great opportunity to connect with mentors who will offer you insights, guidance, and further help you navigate the next stages of your career. Mentees will also have access to a wide range of GWNET's educational, networking and professional services.
