BIPV Task Force

By combining solar electricity generation and traditional building envelopes (facades, roofs, windows, tiles, etc) Building-Integrated PhotoVoltaics (BIPV) products offer new possibilities for the decarbonization of the building stock in Europe. Thanks to their specific features, BIPV products provide a wide variety of solutions for integrating renewable energy into the design of buildings.

The possibilities and requirements of Building Integrated PV often differ from those of other PV applications, not least because of the crucial involvement of the construction sector.

The further development of the BIPV sector is very much linked to the evolution of the regulatory framework. Important pieces of European legislation are being discussed currently in the European Parliament and the Council, including the European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive. This is opening a window of opportunity for BIPV. We aim at promoting concrete and important drivers for BIPV, advocating for an ambitious vision for the decarbonization of the building stock and the consideration of the BIPV innovative industry.

The Task Force aims to:

  • Establish direct contact with European institutions to highlight current significant gaps and need for strengthened incentives for BIPV
  • Focus on industry and market development needs, taking an integrated approach over value chain, voice / expertise of the industry
