European Solar Initiative

The European Solar Initiative aims to re-develop 20-GW manufacturing capacity of solar PV technologies in Europe by 2025. The European Solar Initiative was launched in February 2021 by SolarPower Europe and EIT InnoEnergy and is formally endorsed by the European Commission. The initiative aims to scale up solar PV manufacturing capacity in Europe to 20GW by 2025, unlocking €40bn of GDP annually and creating 400,000 new direct and indirect jobs across the PV value chain. The European Solar Initiative is comprised of two pillars: the Solar Manufacturing Accelerator and the Business Investment Platform.

Solar Manufacturing Accelerator

SolarPower Europe launched the “Solar Manufacturing Accelerator”, a platform aimed at accelerating the deployment of solar PV manufacturing projects in Europe to strengthen the EU’s leadership in Clean Energy Technologies and contribute to the re-industrialisation of Europe.

The ‘Solar Manufacturing Accelerator’ is an initiative coordinated by SolarPower Europe with the support of its strategic partners ESMC, ETIP-PV, IPVF and VDMA. It is open to all companies and organisations interested in developing or partnering on solar manufacturing projects.

The platform covers a broad portfolio of European solar manufacturing projects by identifying partners and reaching out to financial investors, with an overall goal of increasing the number of solar PV manufacturing projects in Europe, and contributing to the success of the European Green Deal.

Solar Business Investment Platform

The Solar Business Investment Platform is a unique platform that accompanies the development of solar PV manufacturing projects in Europe and bridges the gap between project developers and investors. By applying to join the platform, project developers will be accompanied in the development of their project and in reaching out to financiers.

Designed with public and private financing institutions and core industrial players, the platform draws on the successes the European Battery Alliance investment platform launched by EIT Innoenergy in 2019 and on the experience of the Solar Manufacturing Accelerator initiative.
