SolarPower Europe has published a position paper outlining its recommendations for prioritising and improving end-of-life management under the upcoming revision of the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive.
- First, the upcoming WEEE Directive revision should build an aligned and coherent framework with relevant EU legislation, most notably the Critical Raw Materials Act, the Net-Zero Industry Act, the Battery Regulation, and the upcoming Ecodesign and Energy Label provisions for solar PV modules and inverters.
- Second, the revision should address the lack of harmonisation of the existing framework across Member States, which is one of the largest obstacles to improving end-of-life performance.
- Tailored provision should be applied to solar PV, considering the strategic relevance and unique characteristics of solar products.
A future-proof end-of-life framework for solar PV
Aligned and coherent framework with relevant EU legislation. Address lack of harmonisation. Apply tailored provision.
