Electrification lies at the heart of Europe’s decarbonisation and energy security objectives, underpinning the implementation of the Fit-for-55 targets, and the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR). However, widespread deployment of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure continues to face significant structural and regulatory hurdles in the EU. With diverse regulations in place across the Union, grid operators function in a fragmented ecosystem.
On 2 July 2025, SolarPower Europe and E-Mobility Europe organised a joint workshop that brought together their members from various sectors from fleet operators to charging point manufacturers, national electric vehicle (EV) and solar associations, grid operators, e-mobility service providers, research and innovation (R&I) centres, and other clean energy stakeholders, to identify shared challenges and build common solutions aiming at enabling flexibility, investing in grid infrastructure, and ensuring a stable, investor-friendly regulatory framework.
