As part of the Generation Solar campaign, SolarPower Europe travelled to Slovakia to visit Maroš Šefčovič, Vice President of the European Commission and in charge of the Energy Union, in his solar powered family home.
Vice President Šefčovič recently installed a 7KWh solar PV system on his house that can cover up to 30% of their consumption.
“The benefits of solar is that you are your own master, you are a prosumer, meaning that the energy you produce is coming from your source and it also gives that good feeling to know that you are producing clean energy,” said Šefčovič.
Vice President Šefčovič launched the Clean Energy Industrial Forum in 2018, which aims to drive industrial competitiveness in solar and clean energy technologies in Europe.
“I’m proud that Europe is still the global leader when it comes to renewable energy, including solar panels. 200 million of our solar panels in Europe use the coating coming from European producers. We are still very strong in inverters and we are strong in a number of patents.” Adding: “Solar panels are a very easy solution – the installation is more and more easy, therefore I expect to see them more and more across Europe,” said Vice President Šefčovič.
