European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW)

The European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) Policy Conference is Europe’s biggest event dedicated to renewables and efficient energy use. The 20th edition of the Policy Conference will take place in a hybrid format, both in Brussels and online on 9-11 June 2026, gathering policymakers, innovators and energy stakeholders to discuss innovations and the future of clean energy in Europe.

How accelerating energy transition improves Europe’s security | 10 June, 16:30–18:00 (CEST)

EU has depended on volatile imports of fossil fuels for its energy security far too long. The new geopolitical reality makes this vulnerability ever-more apparent.

This session will explore how the EU can best leverage the energy transition – towards a system based on renewables, electrification, flexibility and decentralisation – as new opportunities to make Europe more secure and autonomous. Experts will answer questions such as: to what extent can an electric, renewables-based system replace fossil fuels in securing our system? Does it hamper or drive Europe’s defence agenda?

The discussion will also address the new security challenges that come with a digital, electrified system, and within international supply chains. Does the EU need new tools to secure this new system? How do we redefine energy security to be ready for the new energy reality?
