BRUSSELS, Belgium (Monday 23rd June 2025): As part of European Solar Day, SolarPower Europe has launched a new factual guide to solar energy to help the sector tackle misinformation.
Walburga Hemetsberger, CEO of SolarPower Europe (she/her), said: “European Solar Day is an important day to mark solar’s contribution to the prosperity and well-being of Europe. As fake news poses real challenges to the roll-out of renewable energies on the continent, we hope this new guide to solar energy proves an accessible tool to dispel misinformation, inform citizens, and empower communities.”
The Solar Facts are a set of frequently asked questions about solar energy. It covers ten key topics, from the basics, to how solar installations interacts with communities and the environment. The Facts follow last year’s ‘Solar School’ theme of European Solar Day, and focusses on supporting solar stakeholders in telling their stories, as well as educating the general public.
Solar PV expected to become biggest source of renewable energy in the world by 2030, making it is essential for citizens to understand how solar works.
With thanks to experts across Europe who contributed to the drafting of the The Solar Facts Guide, the resource is available in ten languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Bulgarian, Lithuanian, Finnish and Greek.
European Solar Day is an award-winning public engagement campaign, celebrated annually on 21 June, to mark the brightest and longest day of the year. Its goal is to bring people together from all corners of Europe to celebrate the power of the sun and the energy it can provide. European Solar Day has been a major success in recent years, having reached over one million people on social media partnering with almost 90 cross-sector organisations across Europe. European Solar Day won the International Energy Engagement Award at the International Energy Awards 2025.
