Dr Christian Westermeier, President of SolarPower Europe, congratulated Walburga ‘With over 20 years of experience in European policy, in particular in the field of renewable energy, our Board is delighted to have unanimously approved Walburga as the next CEO of SolarPower Europe. Having led the representation of Verbund, a major renewables player in the power sector, to the European Institutions for the past nine years, Walburga brings with her an impressive knowledge of European energy policy, as well as an influential network. Her knowledge of renewable energies and competition policy is also a huge asset that will stand our association in good stead.’

I am looking forward to making sure that we have the right policy and business frameworks in place, to ensure that solar is the leading energy source in Europe in the near future. These are great times for solar in Europe and we are expecting considerable growth in solar deployment over the coming years. I am pleased to have the opportunity to build on the success of my predecessor, James Watson, and work in this innovative clean energy sector, which is at the forefront of building a new low carbon economy in Europe.’
Dr Westermeier added ‘Walburga’s appointment will ensure the continuity of high value member led activities in SolarPower Europe and will enhance our efforts towards the European institutions to build a sustainable future for the entire solar value chain in Europe.’
