At Intersolar Mexico, SolarPower Europe and ASOLMEX launched a joint report on ‘Digitalisation & Solar in Mexico’. This report is thought to be the first of its kind to look at how new digital technology can be applied to solar in Mexico.
Walburga Hemetsberger, CEO of SolarPower Europe said: “Digitalisation brings major opportunities for solar. Not only is digitalisation a way of integrating more solar PV into the grid and gaining new revenues for solar installations, it also creates entirely new business models from smart solar homes to peer-to-peer electricity trading to digitalised manufacturing to high-tech O&M. We are delighted to launch this report with our partner ASOLMEX to highlight the multitude of opportunities that digital solar can create in Mexico.”
Héctor Olea, President of ASOLMEX, said: “The energy transition and digital transition complement each other as digitalisation will contribute hugely to the decarbonisation of the energy sector. Now we must ensure that policymakers and public policies foster not only the improvement of digital technologies but enable supportive frameworks to boost digital solar in Mexico.”
SolarPower Europe and the Mexican solar association (ASOLMEX) signed a Memorandum of Understanding in June 2018 to explore new business opportunities for solar companies in the European and Mexican solar markets. This cooperation is supported by the “Large Scale Solar Energy” Program of the German-Mexican bilateral technical cooperation, implemented by GIZ on behalf of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
