SolarPower Europe’s Máté Heisz voted Chair-elect of the Global Solar Council

In the Board meeting and General Assembly of the Global Solar Council (GSC) last December 2020, Máté Heisz, Head of International Cooperation at SolarPower Europe, was voted in as Chair-elect of the association. He will follow José Donoso, Secretary General of the Spanish Photovoltaic Energy Association UNEF as GSC Chairman in January 2023.

Commenting on the outcome, CEO of the Global Solar Council, Mr Gianni Chianetta highlighted: “This year we have learned that all countries in the world need to accelerate the path to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, as climate change risks causing much bigger disasters than the pandemic. The appointment of Máté Heisz from Solar Power Europe as Chair-elect of the GSC will help to promote Green Deals and the EU experience all over the world.”

Mr José Donoso, who will serve as GSC Chairman from January 2021 until December 2022 added: “I’m thrilled with the election of Máté Heisz from SolarPower Europe. A person with his professionalism and capacity will assure the stability of the GSC in achieving its goal of being an essential tool for the solar sector”

Dr Rodrigo Sauaia, Co-chair of the GSC & CEO of the Brazilian Solar Photovoltaic Energy Association (ABSOLAR), added: “The GSC welcomes our new Chair-elect, Máté Heisz, to build upon the dedicated work and accomplishments of our global entity. We are confident that his appointment will strengthen the solar sector and help us forge new partnerships with public and private decisionmakers, contributing towards a more renewable and sustainable future.”

Mr Pranav Mehta, Co-chair of the GSC & Chairman of the National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI),added: “On behalf of NSEFI and on my personal behalf, in my capacity as a previous GSC Chair,  I would like to congratulate Máté Heisz on his election. I am sure with his vast international experience and expertise he will bring a lot of impact to the GSC and I strongly believe under his leadership GSC will scale greater heights.”

Mr Gongshan Zhu, Co-chair of the GSC & Chairman of the Asian Photovoltaic Industry Association (APVIA), added: “As the Co-Chairman of GSC and on behalf of one of the founding members of GSC, I would like to extend our congratulations to Máté Heisz, and I will be very delighted to support him on developing and expanding the organization during his term. The renewable energy’s progress is now disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, but I am convinced that the deployment of renewable energy would be back on track or even better in no time and play an important role in the global economic recovery.”

Mr Jifan Gao, Co-chair of the GSC & Chairman of the China Photovoltaic Industry Association, added: “We congratulate Mr. Máté Heisz. We all have high hopes and expectations for him and know he will undertake all the responsibilities well and serve the GSC well. We wish Mr. Máté Heisz a successful tenure and hope that his hard work will benefit all members of the GSC. In cooperation, we will of course continue our support of the GSC as usual.”

Chair-elect Mr Máté Heisz said: “It is an honour to be appointed Chair-elect of the GSC. I look forward to working with all members of the GSC to grow the association further and make solar the leading source of energy for the near future. Today, the solar industry needs a single global voice more than ever before in order to successfully tackle the challenges related to COVID-19 and the climate crisis.”
