Supply Chain Sustainability

Supply chain sustainability is of ever-growing importance as the energy transition progresses.

As solar deployment accelerates, ensuring responsible sourcing, environmental protection and respect for human rights becomes central to maintaining public trust and long-term resilience in the solar sector.

Geopolitical tensions, market concentration, and evolving regulatory expectations are reshaping how companies manage sourcing and manufacturing. Regulators, investors, and consumers are demanding greater transparency on the origin and production of materials and components, alongside stronger due diligence and governance practices. These dynamics underscore the need for resilient, diversified, and well-governed supply chains that can adapt to disruption while supporting sustainable growth.

Addressing these challenges requires coordinated action across the value chain. By embedding sustainability into procurement practices and corporate governance, the solar industry can drive positive social and environmental outcomes while supporting Europe’s clean energy, security and climate objectives.

The Supply Chain Sustainability Workstream
The Supply Chain Sustainability Workstream focuses on key EU policy files related to supply chain sustainability and due diligence, including the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and the Forced Labour Regulation (FLR), and supports members in preparing for their implementation.

Members gather within the Workstream to share insights, align positions and exchange best practices on environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance, responsible sourcing and supply chain risk management. Building on this expertise, the Workstream develops common industry positions and actively contributes to public consultations and policy processes shaping implementing guidelines and enforcement practices.

The Workstream also cooperates closely with the Solar Stewardship Initiative (SSI), a solar-specific sustainability assurance programme that combines supply chain integrity with enhanced ESG performance, supporting practical transparency and accountability across the solar value chain.
