SolarPower Europe is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and strategic Head of Events to lead the planning, delivery, and continuous development of the association’s award-winning flagship events.
SolarPower Europe is a member-led association representing the European solar sector. SolarPower Europe’s aim is to ensure that more energy is generated by solar than any other energy source by 2023 and lead our members to make solar the core of a smart, sustainable and inclusive energy system. We are an award-winning association and have over 300 members spanning 35 countries. We aim to produce thought-leading energy market analysis and support the business of our members through creative and successful advocacy campaigns. SolarPower Europe believes innovative solutions arise from diverse teams that receive input from a range of experiences and perspectives. We are multicultural, representing more than 20 nationalities and 21 languages.
This senior role combines strategic ownership of high-profile European events with hands-on delivery, cross-team coordination, and people management, overseeing a team of three events professionals. The role plays a key part in positioning SolarPower Europe as the leading convenor of the European solar sector.
Job responsibilities
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Head of Evens will be responsible for:
Events Strategy & Leadership
- Oversee the implementation of all of SolarPower Europe’s flagship events, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives, policy priorities, and member value.
- Lead the conception, planning, and delivery of a diverse portfolio of SolarPower Europe’s own and co-organised events, including conferences, exhibitions, policy roundtables, workshops, webinars, and member events.
- Ensure events are impactful platforms for advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and thought leadership at European level.
Event Planning & Delivery
- Oversee end-to-end event management, including concept development, budgeting, logistics, supplier management, programme development, speaker coordination, and onsite delivery.
- Work closely with other SolarPower Europe teams and departments to ensure strong content, messaging, and audience engagement.
- Manage relationships with venues, suppliers, partners, sponsors, and service providers.
Team Management
- Directly manage, coach, and develop three Events team members, ensuring clear objectives, workload prioritisation, and professional growth.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture, promoting best practices in project and event management.
Stakeholder & External Engagement
- Act as a key point of contact for senior external stakeholders, including members, EU institutions, partners, and sponsors.
- Support other SolarPower Europe teams and departments in engaging high-level speakers and institutional partners.
- Closely collaborate with the Marketing team and the Sales team in promoting the event and event sponsorship sales.
Budgeting, Monitoring & Evaluation
- Manage event budgets, ensuring cost control and value for money.
- Monitor event performance, gather feedback, and continuously improve formats, processes, and participant experience.
- Ensure compliance with internal procedures and sustainability objectives.
Flexibility & Travel
- In line with the events calendar, occasional out-of-hours work and travel may be required.
Profile
Essential
- At least 8 years of experience in event management, including responsibility for complex, high-profile events (at least 300 participants).
- Demonstrated experience in line management and team leadership.
- Strong project management, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, and stakeholder-rich environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Fluency in English.
Desirable
- Experience working in a European, policy, association, or international environment.
- Experience engaging with senior stakeholders and public institutions.
- Fluency in an additional EU language.
