SolarPower Europe’s aim is to ensure that more energy is generated by solar than any other energy source by 2030 and lead our members to make solar the core of a smart, sustainable and inclusive energy system within resilient and diversified solar PV supply chains. Background on Markets & Investments Workstream
The Markets & Investments Workstream will provide guidance on the needs of investors to make the solar TW-era happen at lowest costs for society.
The Workstream develops SolarPower Europe’s position on the required design for future electricity markets, from long-term to short-term, ensuring they are fit for 100% renewable energy systems. It provides guidance on the solar industry’s needs in terms of public support and inputs from the EU Competition authority when designing its State Aid Frameworks, in particular the Climate, Energy and Environmental protection Aid Guidelines (CEEAG) and contracts for difference (CfDs).
It assesses the regulatory barriers to the development of Power Purchase Agreements, including the Guarantees of Origins (GOs) system. It also provides input on the relevant financial standards, in particular the Sustainable Finance Framework.
The Workstream will be the interface between the solar industry and the financing sector. It will also coordinate with the related EU expert groups and interact with EU financial institutions such as the European Investment Bank or the European Central Bank.
Job responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of System Integration at SolarPower Europe, the Senior Policy Advisor will support the work of the Policy team. The responsibilities of the position include the following:
- Monitoring all relevant EU legislation on renewables and storage permitting, including the Electricity Market Design;
- Lead the Workstream meetings on Markets & Investments Workstream, developing position papers and advocacy outreach with and for the members;
- Building, maintaining, and expanding a strong network in the field of renewables investments, in Brussels and among SolarPower Europe’s members;
- Contributing to the content and drafting of SolarPower Europe’s deliverables (presentations, reports);
- Representing SolarPower Europe on RE-Source Platform activities and annual event;
- Occasional travel to destinations in the European Union (average once per quarter);
- Occasional public speaking in conferences in Brussels or EU capitals (average once per quarter);
- Other ad hoc tasks as required, such as preparing briefing notes and presentations; providing organisational and logistical support to events, and supporting administrative and business operations' functions in the system integration team;
Profile
The ideal candidate has:
- Masters’ Degree in a relevant discipline such as International Relations, Political Science, Economics, Law, or similar;
- At least 3 years of demonstrated relevant work experience in EU energy markets a or energy system integration;
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in understanding of solar PV or renewable energy sector in the EU and at the global level: key players, drivers, barriers, challenges and trends;
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in advocacy and understanding of EU policymaking process;
- Excellent communication skills, experience with social media and other distribution channels, and strong command of English – written and oral; additional EU languages are a plus;
- Team player with flexibility to work in a dynamic and multicultural team with high interaction across different departments.
