Webinar - SolarPower Europe Proposes Solutions to Mitigate Critical Cybersecurity Risks

Online

A new report, produced by DNV, and commissioned by SolarPower Europe, performs a comprehensive risk assessment for the sector, and offers clear policy recommendations to address risk.

Amid increasing attacks on energy infrastructure in Europe, energy security measures are becoming a pivotal element of a modern EU energy system. Current efforts are, however, focused on traditional energy infrastructure such as large, centralised power plants. To accelerate the transition to a smart, digitised renewables-based energy system, the European solar sector has issued strong recommendations to EU policymakers and regulators to address potential cybersecurity risks associated with its technology in an increasingly digital energy system.

A new report by DNV, commissioned by SolarPower Europe, identifies the critical level of controlled capacity that could threaten the stability of Europe's power grid. This is based on ENTSO-E’s grid model. The study also presents clear policy recommendations to mitigate risks. It thoroughly examines potential vulnerabilities across both utility-scale and small-scale PV systems, considering all possible attack vectors — including developers, inverter manufacturers, installers, and service providers.

The agenda of the webinar is:

  • Introductory words by Walburga Hemetsberger, CEO, SolarPower Europe

  • Results presentation by Ryan Davidson, Principal Engineer for Power Grid Cyber Security, DNV.

  • Panel discussion between

    • Felipe Castro-Barrigon, Policy Officer, DG ENER, TF4 on Energy Security

    • Jörg Ebel, Vice-President IBC Solar, Board Member at SolarPower Europe

    • Eric Quiring, Head of Public Affairs, SMA Solar

    • Ryan Davidson, Principal Engineer for Power Grid Cyber Security, DNV.

    • Moderated by Jan Osenberg, Head of System Integration, SolarPower Europe
