Solar communicators gather in Brussels

10 May 2024

Solar communicators gathered in Brussels on 8 May, hosted by SolarPower Europe. This marked a shift from the usual hybrid format of the Solar Communications Forum's meetings, bringing together communicators from national solar associations and solar companies.

The meeting aimed at fostering networking opportunities for attendees, sharing best practices, addressing common challenges, and planning for effective solar advocacy.

The day started with insights into EU institutions and the role of SolarPower Europe's communications team in shaping policy. Situated at the heart of Brussels’ European Quarter, participants gained firsthand exposure to the EU operations. Speed networking sessions also facilitated valuable connections.

A community engagement workshop, facilitated by Energy Cities and SolarPower Europe, explored tactics for involving communities in solar projects, from stakeholder mapping to managing social resistance.

Seda Orhan, Renewable Energy Programme Manager at Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe joined us to emphasise the urgency for the solar sector to address misconceptions around solar energy and promote social acceptance.

Discussions also covered ways to encourage voter participation in the upcoming EU elections from 6-9 June 2024 through the #UseYourVote campaign and SolarPower Europe's #SolarForEurope manifesto.

The Solar Communications Forum committed to endorse European Solar Day, with plans to engage on a national level.

The day was filled with knowledge-sharing exchanges and creative dialogues, reflecting the Solar Communications Forum's commitment to advancing solar communications across Europe.
