EUSEW is the biggest annual event dedicated to renewables and efficient energy use in Europe.

Our participation kicked off on day 1 at the EUSEW Awards Ceremony. The event was opened by the Executive Vice President of the European Commission for a Clean, Just and Competitive Transition, Teresa Ribera, who praised the shortlisted candidates for “turning ambition into action and real-world impact.”
Our CEO Walburga Hemetsberger was a member of the high-level jury, and announced the winner of the Woman in Energy category, stating; “The EUSEW Woman in Energy Award recognises women who lead outstanding activities that, if replicated, help to advance the clean energy transition in Europe. Particular attention is placed on efforts to drive the gender mainstreaming agenda and support equality and equal opportunities in the energy sector. Shortlisted candidates also inspire and motivate others to implement similar solutions across the EU, resulting in wider social, economic and environmental benefit.” In the end, Dr. Stella Tsani, Associate Professor of at the University of Athens won the award. The other nominees in this category were Carmen Sánchez-Guevara and Sophie Loots.

Later that day, during a session on the role of renewables in the roll out of the Clean Industrial Deal, our Senior Policy Advisor Arthur Daemers highlighted that; "If we want to decarbonise industry, we need a batteries revolution. Currently, we have 60 GWh of battery capacity in Europe; we need to go faster, multiply that by 100 & grow Europe's total battery fleet to 600 GWh.”

During a parallel session, our Policy Advisor for Sustainability Lina Dubina moderated an online panel discussion on how agrisolar can be used to help the farming fulfil its climate, environmental and socio-economic goals. The participants agreed that more research and development would be required to create a successful future for Agri-PV. Antanas Karbauskas, Policy Officer at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development, emphasised; “From the European side, there is definitely support and momentum there for agrisolar practices.”
It was a great week for SolarPower Europe at this year’s EUSEW, full of inspiring discussions, meaningful connections, and shared ambitions for a sustainable future.
We’re already looking forward to next year's edition, and the chance to further explore Europe’s sustainable energy future.
