EU-US Trade and Technology Council

SolarPower Europe Statement

31 May 2023

The EU-US Trade and Technology Council (TTC) met in Brussels on May 30th and 31st. The TTC Conclusions reference solar:

“Launch an initiative to jointly assess supply chains, including risks of disruptions, critical for the green transition, with an initial focus on solar. To support this work, the European Union and the United States will engage the private sector to better understand the challenges they face.”

SolarPower Europe has issued the following statement:

Dries Acke, Policy Director at SolarPower Europe said (he/him):

“International co-operation on critical clean tech supply chains is a no-brainer.

There’s plenty of room to work together, for example, on a common approach to ‘low-carbon’ manufacturing of energy tech.

With solar driving the energy transition worldwide, we’re happy to continue our work with our colleagues across the Atlantic, including within the context of this proposed initiative.

It’s also good to see the specific focus on solar PV supply chains – we need to keep this in mind as Europe discusses its Net-Zero Industry Act.”
